(Dec 2013) This year instead of going to some other state, decided to
go around Chikkamagalur. On the way also went to my mausi and sister and stayed
at brothers place - so overall there was no money spent on accommodation - it was a kind of relative+familiy outing.
The best part was,
that I took my wife to our ancestral village/home - Sakarepattana. Dad's house
is nice - small one and holds lots of my childhood memory as well. On the way we went to Ayyanakere - 2nd largest lake and one
of the very old lakes (some 900 year old) of karnataka. The lake surrounded by mountains is exceptionally beautiful.
We also went to Muthodi forest which was
a dense forest (mostly teak plantation) and the safari was excellent. But contrary to my all previous Jungle visits, this time I
did not even find a Bison. Mostly the routine is Deers, Sambar, Peacock,
Bison.. some times elephants. But this time had to settle for Deers, Sambar,
Peacock, Malabar Squrells only. I had been to this forest through other city - Lakkoli.
In the Yagachi Dam backwater, the water sports were fun. For
the first time we went in Bumper ride and it was really thrilling experience.
Of course on the way back we went to the marvel of indian sculptures in Belur
and halebeed. There is nothing as beautiful/painstakingly done sculpture
as this one, in the whole of India. I loved this whole trip.
