This dec 2011, as I was planning for low budget trip, we decided to go to Mangalore side. The plan was done quickly so had to settle for tatkal sleeper tickets. We had enquired about availability of rooms in a couple of hotels earlier. Initially we went to Srinivas hotel as the rooms were available
But as it was not a clean hotel, we went to ‘The saffron’ hotel. The tariff was a bit high – 3K + taxes. I clearly told him its beyond my budget, but to my delight he has reduced the price and finally settled for 2100. The two days in Mlore were excellent. We went to Sharayu Mahaganapathi temple, Konkani Venkataramana Temple (it was under construction), Gokarnath temple (a modern touch to the temple), Sultan Battery (initially I expected it to be fort – but when found out that it’s a light house was a bit disappointed. But the nice part was there was boating available and it was fun), Kadri temple, Ullal dargah, Ullal (Someshwar beach). We went to Kettel and Mudabidri as well. The mudabidri thousand pillar temple is really a nice place to be.
From there we went to Udupi – Sri Krishna temple, Ashtha mathas and Malpe beach. As there was no accommodation available, we had to settle for one junk lodge ‘Samartha Hotel’ and that was a spoil sport in our trip. Because of that we cut short our trip and went back to Mysore.
But the overall trip for me was a nice one and I feel I must visit those places again.
