Chitraduraga (Jul 2015): After many days of lull, we went
out for a small outing – a weekend outing. Fortunately, this turned out to be
one of the best weekends in recent times. The journey to Chirtradurgra via NH-4
(Blore-Pune) highway is one of the fastest routes I have ever traveled on - absolutely
bypassing every small and major town in between.
On the way, we visited Vani Vilas Sagar dam, one of the
oldest and biggest man-made reservoir of that time (a century old) – really beautiful dam. There in chitradurga we
visited Adumalleshwara temple (a small zoo), Chandravalli guhe, Murugarajendra
Matha (which has very nice park – lots of sculptures – dynosores, human evolution,
different cultures are depicted there) and Chitradurga fort.
This fort is a real rocky fort and has been the house of
Madakari Nayaka - one of the most famous
warrior in Karnataka. There is also a folklore about Onake Obbavva (a lady who
saves the fort from attacks of Hydar Ali) - which happened in this town only. It’s a heritage site and is very
well maintained and is the main attraction of that town. It takes 2-3 hrs min
to have a glance of this fort and a guide is a must.
